Anickan Reveals Inspiration Behind Interstellar Love Story Album
The Journey Within: How Anickan Found Himself Through Creative Expression
Let’s be honest. There is no better feeling than finding new music to listen to that has a compelling story behind every song. Music has the ability to evoke strong emotions, and transport us to a specific memory, smell, person, or place. This can be incredibly healing for many because we feel a shared connection with the artists feelings and experiences when we feel others can’t relate to what we’re going through. Music is what reflects and shapes our cultural values, while fostering creativity and imagination, and providing emotional support for both the person and the musician.
I love the type of music that opens my mind to new possibilities and motivates me to work smarter not harder. When I think of a favourite artist of mine who represents a strong work ethic, it is American Hip-Hop/Rap Artist, Vin Jay. In 2022, Vin Jay released a Single named, ‘Sedona’ featuring Anickan.
Whenever an artist releases a song with another artist, I immediately become interested. Anickan did not disappoint. The song is motivational and the beat is contagious. What impressed me the most was Anickan’s vocal abilities ranging from high to low while effortlessly creating captivating sentences with the rapid changes of the beat and rhythm. It blew my mind, and still blows my mind how a person can take what’s in their mind and beautifully orchestrate the words, the tone, the beat, the rhythm, and the feeling into an entire song.
After I finished the song, I knew he was extremely talented. He’s a young artist who believed he could make it in the music industry, and so he did. His music style is a cross between indie rap and calm with hypnotic sounds. Also, the emotion that comes from the way he sings and the words he uses is nothing like anything I have heard from any artist before. For these reasons, I knew I had to ask him to be a guest on my podcast.
In the episode, I talk with Anickan about what inspired him to pursue his dream of becoming an artist, how to overcome the feeling of failure, what his future plans look like for his music, and what the inspiration behind his latest album, ‘Interstellar Love Story’ was about. Listen to Anickan’s album Interstellar Love Story:
The album was influenced by the movie Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan. As Anickan describes, the album is a journey that ties together. Each song referencing an aspect of the human condition, and our relationship with space. Interstellar Love Story begins with the song, ‘Awaken, My Love’ that encourages the listeners to avoid distractions and stay true to who themselves. Following this, are songs like, ‘Anti-Gravity’, ‘Supernova’, ‘Shooting Star’ and ‘Saturn’ that make the person listening feel spacey, open-minded, and dreamy.
One of my favourite songs from the album is “All the times I tried to jump, and all they did is weigh me down. It’s alright to hate me now. I’m going to be here for a while. This ones for the ones that ever doubted me and stripped me of my smile” from the song The Sky’s Going to Know My Name”. This album takes the listener deep within their psyche in a pursuit of self-discovery and good vibes. I highly recommend you check out the full album, from beginning to end.
It was such a pleasure speaking with Anickan, and I hope it won’t be the last. I develop a deeper appreciation for the music, when I’m able to learn about the thought process and passion behind the music.
