I Interviewed the Premier of British Columbia 🤯
🎧 Podcast Episode 169 with Premier David Eby
Back in March 2020, my partner Rebekah and I launched the Bigger Than Me Podcast with a simple goal: to create a space where entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders could share their stories through in-depth conversations.
We started small, interviewing friends, local politicians, and business owners, never imagining how much the podcast would grow.
Over the next couple of years, we expanded our guest list to include a diverse range of voices—authors, artists, Indigenous leaders, and other notable figures. Each episode aimed to highlight their personal journeys and successes, offering listeners not just stories but valuable insights into their fields.
By 2022, the podcast had gained significant momentum. We recorded more episodes than ever before, despite some challenges, like temporarily losing our studio space to a flood. We pushed through, and the podcast began to attract a broader audience, driven by engaging conversations with guests from all walks of life. During the flood, when I had the opportunity to interview Mayor of the City of Abbotsford - Henry Braun, who oversaw the city during the 2021 atmospheric river. I didn’t have a location to record, and I wanted to make sure this episode respected the seriousness of the topic.
In 2023, we took a big step forward by moving into a professional studio, thanks to the support of Tim McAlpine, who also came on board as our producer.
I began thinking about moving into the space full-time, and we did. This move allowed us to reach an even larger audience and celebrate a major milestone: three years and 100 episodes. We featured an incredible lineup of guests, including UFC fighters, biologists, musicians, and legal experts.
But 2024 has truly been a breakthrough year for us. Our interviews have started to reach tens of thousands of viewers on YouTube, with some episodes going viral. We've also hosted sold-out live events, and the podcast has become a platform where meaningful conversations take place.
The pinnacle of this journey came when I had the opportunity to interview the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby.
This was a surreal moment, marking how far the podcast has come. Alongside Premier Eby, I’ve also interviewed the leaders of all major political parties in BC, including Kevin Falcon from the BC United Party, John Rustad from the BC Conservatives, and Sonia Furstenau from the BC Greens.
This achievement made the Bigger Than Me Podcast the first independent podcast to interview all four party leaders ahead of the provincial election.
Interviewing the Premier was not just a personal milestone but also a significant moment for the podcast. It highlighted our growth from humble beginnings into a platform that plays a role in shaping public discourse and contributing to the democratic process in British Columbia.
Thank you to everyone who has tuned in, subscribed, rated the podcast, and become a paid subscriber. This isn’t possible without the listeners. I hope this story reminds you that you can take an idea, and bring it to life it just requires time and passion!
