I had the privilege of joining Peter Ladner on the Bike Sense podcast, hosted by the BC Cycling Coalition. It was an honour to speak about the challenges and opportunities in active transportation for Indigenous communities and to highlight the important work we are doing at Chawathil First Nation.
As a Councillor, I see firsthand the impact that transportation barriers have on our community. Every day, our members face dangerous roads, limited access to services, and a lack of safe walking and cycling options. But we are working hard to change that. From developing the Coast to Canyon Trail to exploring new infrastructure solutions like a highway overpass, we are pushing forward to create a safer, more connected future.
On the podcast, we discuss what it means to lead these initiatives, the importance of integrating Indigenous culture into transportation planning, and how active transportation can empower our community. We also explore the broader challenges facing Indigenous communities when it comes to mobility and access to essential services.
I invite you to listen to this episode of Bike Sense to hear more about this work, the vision we are building toward, and how we are collaborating with key stakeholders to make it a reality. Your support and awareness are invaluable as we continue advocating for infrastructure that meets our community’s needs.
