Land acknowledgements: they are performative activism or virtue signaling.
As they say: actions speak louder than words. I lived in South Korea for 15 years. How did I acknowledge the country of my residence? I learned the language, ate the food, read a lot of Korean history, made many Korean friends, went to cultural festivals and traveled all around the country. In order to truly support a culture or people, as you allude to, you need to engage in it.
All the performative activism and virtue signaling was probably the only reverse culture shock for me when I returned to Canada. That and the fact that Canadian food is mostly desserts..ha..ha.
I agree. It's rather tragic, as I think many miss out on the beauty of the culture and traditions. Hopefully, this can be the next chapter of reconciliation.
